Had so much bling added to the van, will post a few pics over the weekend but after all the Tim upgrades decoded on a treat and got a full stainless custom system added...sounds and drives lovely. Tbh when added up the the rc40 cost and someone to fabricate it up the cost wasn't far off and a lifetime guarantee. final piece before hols is a rolling road tune up with an Su specialist nearby...he sounded well excited about the prospect. I'll post needle details for an alloy head with an Su next week after its done.

Thanks, got it exactly where I want it now, for a couple if years at least :) always the plan to do stuff...cant help myself.

The roof rack was from ebay for a vw lvavw is the seller under classic roof rack. £80 but you get what you pay for...its a little narrow for a Commer so heavy weights flex it a little too much also it rusts on the bolts etc too but looks great and does work for a certain amount of weight.

All hail King Tim - not the greatest pictures, will try for some better ones this week. The SU conversion is excellent, a couple of flats spots as it's on a alloy head and therefore the fuelling isn't quite known but that will all be sorted on the rolling road Wednesday, saying that the van pulls like a train now and 30 mpg from 20 before. The diff is a pain as I think it's a 5.12 rather than a 4.77 so top end is limited to 55-60 will sort that later date. The exhaust has also made a big difference, apart from the huge noise reduction it just pulls better and smoother too. Was done by Tony Banks in Leeds, great job.

Pics:

Stereo - not very retro but proper loud when needs be (on a motorway!) and the speakers are nicely hidden under the dashboard:

Yes looking forward to that, hope he doesn't rev it too hard before the hols though [xx(]

I'll post the results - hoping for a round 80 odd BHP but never know, when you get through the flats spots it really pulls well - think there's one around the top end that should be ironed out but difficult to know if that's the diff or not restricting it as it's near to top of the rev range.

BTW heater all sorted too with a FX4 Taxi valve and your replacement isn't leaking at all thanks.

Looking great. Will be interesting to the rolling road results.

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

I think they were 91bhp standard on that engine - I'm sure plenty have been put in Tesco ready meals over the years but hoping to get close to 80 - maybe a little too optimistic - 70 then.

So the scores on the board...

The difference is unbelievable...the guy is amazing, I can't post needle details as he tweaked the one is there's power all the way through the range now and effortless hills. This is the chap to see around Yorkshire for carbs...

Hit just over 70bhp so pretty happy with that up from 62 but treacly the driving is completely different, was running very lean as Tim suspected at the top end to the point he didn't rev it out incase of issues...I'll post the dyno pics when I can upload them...

Result[8D] Did the original engine have twin carbs? Maybe that's a bit to do why it's a little down on original spec.

I'm not sure if he knew anyone down there, ill post his number up later . Regarding the twins...maybe that's it, the website mentioned loads f different bhps guess that did have as was the most powerful one. He said he could get more power but the fuel economy would go down some. He reckons should get Better fuel though richer and think he'll be right as hardly have to press the pedal now though was getting 30mpg before on a run, cant imagine will be too much better than that

Excellent [8D] 70 isn't too bad, what you have to consider is manufacturers give exaggerated figures in the first place, generally they take a new engine that's been built in the toolroom rather than on the production line and dyno that ;) Twin carbs will make about 3-4 bhp difference and cause more aggro than they're worth. Yours is a well worn engine, which is why it's down a bit. Presumably he just wound the jet down then :)
