DODGE SUPERVISTA

This is the type, flat plate fitting - if the holes don't line up then drill some more:)
I'm sure you could get one cheaper though

So long as it's a real one and a decent size, shape doesn't matter. Whatever you can make fit, and bigger the better :)

Nice one Panky... Won at £10.50, i work next to Dewsbury, easy pickup so can check it's genuine first. I'll grab it tomorrow. If it's not I'll take a look or a cheaper proper one

Nice one, I was considering putting a bid in myself it was that cheap;) It certainly looks genuine, but when you get it DONT blow it out with an airline, or wash it in petrol, or stick it in the dishwasher:I

Ah, thanks for that, guess it's oiled or something? Hear you can service them but think I'll just use it, got enough on at mo finishing the van :)

Good result :p

Yes, just use it as it is. People have a habit of cleaning and oiling them too much :)

Almost sorted the throttle, v frustrating. Also finally put on the rear doors seals...what a b***ard that was :). Right off the Whitby then. Don't want any of those posts 'saw a commer on the A1 on the back of an AA wagon' even if true :)

Rest assured we will fake some recovery pics even if you make it ok ;):D

Made it back in one piece and no real dramas, 260 miles total, got up to 65 but think I'll keep that as a one off. Picked up the k&n on the way back and looking forward to fitting it. Bit of a fuel leak when you fill up but hoping it's just from the top pipe as was told it was a new tank, I'll sort that tomorrow. Got 22mpg, suspected it was running rich beforehand as needs no choke to fire up and a pretty sooty exhaust. Quite lucky as have a restorer 20 metres from my door who works on Rootes' and knows strombergs inside out. Hes currently working on a Rapier rally car with a 2 ltr Holby lump in it, a very well sorted engine apparently. Im booked in for weds for final tweaking.
What fuel economy should I expect with a alloy engine and a Stromberg?

Cheers

First bit of WiFi or phone for a week but made it to Wales...good few hundred miles and no problems, in fact keep her in the revs and you can tank it on the country roads. Pics to follow...

Excellent[8D] To answer you previous post I get 30+ mpg on a decent run in Harvey but he's got a Rapier lump with an SU[^]

30+ dream land :) 20 at best still think running rich though. But learning quick about campervanning, ill be a master next year i reckon. Loving Wales though, amazing

The best I got was 33mpg on a steady 55/60 mph run up to Scotland - same going to South Wales[^] It's all about making the engine less stressed and removing the mechanical fan and water pump in favour of electric ones saves a few horse and a decent carb/exhaust system adds a few more:) Of course overdrive and electronic ignition contributes as well.
I did an SU conversion on Bonnie and fitted an OD - now she's a big heavy old girl but pootling along the motorway at 50, even with a standard exhaust, I can get 25mpg[^]

Yep, got the alloy head, electric dizzy, Stromberg, electric fuel pump, fan will do sometime i think. Looking at those weber conversion kits the alpine club developed...bit of winter fettling for fun if they're low enough to fit, ill take a read of,them when back on line properly.

Well made it back to Sheffield after a 600+ trouble free tour of Wales, worked faultlessly so thanks to Rich and Steve for a great job...sure all my messing around with the head has made no difference at all. As my mum always said - leave it alone, just can't help myself sometimes but I enjoy it.
The van is proper now part of the family as they loved the whole holiday - we've traveled a lot of place round the world but this was up with them all. The only hairy moment was a wrong turn down what felt like a 1:1 hill down Harleck Castles cliff face, I missed the 'Unsuitable for Motors' sign reversing just left a black line and loads of smoke, after an eventual turn round wasn't enough power to get up so it was family out, fingers crossed and back down but the new brakes worked superb, again thanks Rich and Steve.

Anyway some pics of Wales to look at:
