Dodge/Commer door help!

Hi one and all, well just bought a Dodge, a rolling resto.
Need some ugrent tech help

Will a Commer door fit my Dodge? I know the square handle slot will need to be welded in to fit the internal opener and will have to mod the external door handle hole too unless I change to Commer opener?..
But are the hinges and door pillar catch the same?
I am about to buy a door but need to know if it can be modified as the door is solid

Loving my Dodge, previously had a VW splitty. Are there any Commers/Dodges out there?
Had my bus 4 months now and not seen another :-(

Not sure if I should be posting a new thread or is there a question and answer thread,
If not I will start one.

We are but I have never seen another in the flesh. At least I can find him in a car park lol. Sorry don’t know about the doors. There are helpful people on here who are sure to answer your questions and give advice. Welcome aboard :)

Hi Andy and welcome to the Madhouse:D
Unfortunately I don't think the Commer door (once, twice three times a lady) will fit your Dodge as the pressing is different around the door lock but I guess it could be modified as the hinges are the same. Martin Matlas may be able to sort you out with a door though.
That's one of the attractions of owning a Commer/Dodge, they are rare and you get all excited when you spot another (which is very unlikely) Vw spotting is like spotting silver Fords in comparison:)

Many thanks, it's a bit exciting finding other van owners.

Pressing around the door lock? Do you know if the lock on the post is the same, maybe I could weld in the section from the door I'm taking off onto the door jamb as the new door I have been offered but not seen yet is a minter. Need to find a Commer to look at, but not seen another one in nearly 5 months, so no chance of that then.

It's all rather like finding a dentist for hens teeth, resto on my splitty was so easy, but my Dodge is so awesome, Boxster has just sat on my drive.

Pretty sure the post is different, but if you cut a section out of you old Dodge door and grafted it on to the Commer door to match the existing door pillar it might work. But I've never seen it done.

It's the drivers door, somehow need shots off hinge panel, slam panel and door post :-(

(Also need the chrome Doge letters)

If you decide not to get it please post a link as Commer owners are always looking for good doors.
As said before try Martin Maltas and see if he has one, he does repair panels too so you could repair your old one. You can PM him on here.

Think I am going to go for the modify route as welding the slam panel is a far easier job cosmetically to do than repair door panel bottoms.

Picks in morning would be good Soup Dragon

First Forum site I have ever been on, very useful info gents.

I'm going to do an engine and box swap at Xmas as I need much much more speed for touring trips.
No 4 cylinder has low comp, engine on the way out, but have a lead for an engine and box in West London :)

I am not called Retro Andy for nothing! Not sure how to yet!
The dash shot I posted of my bus dash for my profile pick was a shot of a shot taken from my phone screen which is why it's a little blurry!

How retro is my sound system. The record player is an American copy of an original 70's unit but with a difference, it beams radio waves which are then picked up by my round yellow Welton 8 track via some vintage Technics speakers.

I will be spinning some tunes when we meet up as have a good vinyl collection on board the bus.

The rest of the bus is fully retro 'd out too too with some super super rare stuff, I'm building the bus as a race support vehicle for my two vintage Alfa's.

I need to find a storage place as on my travels as a Surveyor I have just found an abandoned Spacevan, Leaves are currently upto the windscreen, but l'm already in the process of tracing the owner to buy it as reckon this forum can help me with contacts to get it back on the road.

I like the idea of a second bus as can then lend one out to friends for joint outings out.

Think this forum is very good at helping rescue these vans.

The Split Screen Van Club had what they called a Split Screen Van register.

It records all the busses still alive, and is becoming an invaluable archive for current and future generations.

Does this Forum have such a thing? Wouldn't mind helping to set it up if it hasn't.

What are your thoughts.

Also, how many organised meets are there a year? Do you tag along to existing events? Do you have a way of showing who is in which part of the country to help people meet up or exchange parts or info

Been out and about quite a bit this past four months and the only bus I have seen is an abandoned one

So many questions, you can tell I'm a newbe :)

You've just missed a meet at Martin Maltas' place in Yorkshire last weekend. We had a big bonfire, fireworks, food and beer - and lots of very nice people:) Our meets tend to be informal, if someone finds a field then we will come. We go as a group to the Moffat Rootes Rally up in Scotland, that's at the end of June. We have done the August Tatton Park show for the last five years but giving that a rest for now. The biggest events we've done are the Commerfest meets where we had about 50 vans attending, the first in 2010, the last in 2015 so maybe 2020 is a date for the diary;)
We don't have an archive of vans, someone did try a few years ago but unfortunately it didn't catch on. We have lost a lot of forum traffic to Facebook over the last couple of years so any support for such a project would be very limited, don't get me wrong it's a great idea - just being realistic.
You can post pics direct from your phone or PC (depending on file size) but I usually upload all my pics to Imgur and copy them from there, dead easy and a great place to store all you photos.
Love the ICE by the way, my kind of thing:cool:
