disc brakes

I can't seem to find the post by Martin about the disc brake conversion he did with Humber Hawk parts. I have been at the restoration show talking to a couple of hawk owners about sourcing the parts. Does any one know what parts are required for this conversion?

Here you go :)

Ooh don't you enjoy the adrenalin rush whilst trying to stop a Commer on steep long descents?.
The three emotions of traversing mountain terrain in a Commer. All part of the unique Commer experience.

1, during ascent = sever anxiety (will it make it to the top)
2, At the summit = joyous relief (from reaching the top ,soon replaced with 3)
3, during descent= shear terror (will the brakes hold?)

More power?, Disc brakes? YES PLEASE!:D

Finding the bits is the main issue, pads and caliper parts are readily available. I've yet to find new discs though [?]

The chap I was talking to says the calipers are not hard to source. As you say Martin it's the axles. I wonder if anything else will work....alpine....tiger? The tiger owners swap to snipe stub axles to lower the ride height...maybe some thing there?

One of the Aussie CVFs had a thread a while ago where he was using Nissan parts (I think) to do a disc conversion.

If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

The Australian member was frank user name Miss Piggy, he was going to try and fit an entire rear axle/diff assembly from a Nissan Navara and he wasn't sure if front brakes would swap out. Haven't heard from him in a while[8)]
Maybe send him a message, see how he went.:)

I'm using Humber stubs. Vectra discs that needed the centre opened up a little. This gives you large vented discs. I'm also using Holden commodore calipers. These are made by PBR so they may be available in the UK. Anyway the stubs need drilling anyway so a trip to the wreckers should find you something locally.
I have not driven the van yet but everything fits.

Thanks Brad

when I have my commer I will start a thread with disc convertion .I will use the vented discs and everything form a 1979 chevy Camaro ,I have the parts laying around and the bolt patern is already correct
the spindles are kind of similar ,so i'm pretty sure I can make it work with new bearings who match the commer spindles and the chevy hubs .... I think It doesn't even need machining ,although I have to make brackets that will hold the calipers

I will keep you guys posted
