One way of helping to identify engine size on the commer rootes engine (apart from driving as helpfully suggested by admin and charlie commer, thank you:I[:X]) is supposed to be by where the dipstick emerges from block - which may prove useful in some limited scrappie/engine buying situations - as my van was originally down on the docs as being a 10litre engine[:0] it was useful for me
1725 has dipstick on manifold/carb side thus....
and 1500 is on the other side low on the block between distributor and oil filter roughly here (sorry photo less clear) ....
