just a quick note , i have fitted a few perkins 4.108 engines in the commer dodge vans , wich do have good points if done correctly, i bought 2 ex gpo vans wich had them in, one was an automatic , any way i made a note of the conversion bits or bits that you need to convert from petrol , one little bit of imformation is most 4.108 engines wich is 1760 cc, can be fitted even from marine use ,now you cant realy tune diesel engines as you can petrol, pity because i was just about to put the turbo charger on when perkins said dont do it ! aparently its not suited as its indirect injection and to higher compression , oh well , but theres one thing you can do wich i have on all the engines , when fitted as standard to the commer dodge range power was set by the diesel injection pump 41 bhp ! wow !, now if you take your pump and ask the kind diesel fitter ( who knows what hes doing ) can set the pump to 55 bhp at4.480 rpm! i know unbelivable ! but its the diffrence, providing the diesel is in good condition, between a snail and performance on par with the standard high compression petrol engine, plus 40 mpg and longer life if oil changes are are done , i have covered nearly two hundred thousand miles ,using this combination, dont forget the bigger radiator and put corrosion inhibtor in the system .
