Death of a Commer

It is with great regret that we have to announce the sad demise of the Hi-Tor converted Commer we purchased last week.
We brought her back from birkinhead full of hope of seeing her restored to her full glory, but sadly in the cold light of day we had to admit that she was beyond help.
All of the chassis outriggers were gone as was the rear 6 feet of the chassis, the dreaded rust worms had also eaten the floor the full length of both sides and the rear of the engine bay.
So today we sacrificed her to the god of scrap metal

Out Came the Sacrificial Stillsaw.

All that fitted into the wheelie bin [:0]. I can see now it was too far gone, you could have waited for the next strong wind to get rid of it for you, a real shame [V], but at least some rare and valuable parts have been saved

Yes we were really sad to see her go, but cheered up by the knowledge that the ditch wytch will be out today (monday), to drag in a highwayman we`ve just bought,

We are expecting much better things of this one.

shame seeing a commer die like that, but to be honest it was quick and painless - better than sitting on a driveway somewhere to be a "project one day". good to hear those HiTor parts are going to a good home too!

i hope you cut off those lower rear corners and middle corners carefully you might be able to clean them up and repair them then you could sell them on as repaired items, and that whole front panel could be repaired using one of my lower front valances. someone would pay a few hundred pounds for that.if you still have them and want to sell them where are you as i might be interested in buying them off of you.

Sorry Woolfy Had to cut up the front to remove the vent surround to transplant into the highwayman. The engine and box are safely tucked away in the shed awaiting a rebuild (still can`t decide if it`s 1592 or 1725) The front axle has been stripped and has donated the hubs, wheel bearings, brake cylinders and shoes for the highwayman.(good job we suspended it back as the front hubs didn`t have any grease in them and were on the verge of collapse) and i think the highwayman will probably get the rear suspension too. She`s booked in for MOT next friday so got to get a move on, (we`ll probably end up just jamming up the bodywork to get her through).
And then we can do a proper job at our leisure.
