Took Ted to this unusual venue but what a cracking day with literally thousands of visitors through the gate
It was their open day and my local club was asked to put on a display.

I was last to arrive so got my own row :rolleyes:

Absolutley fascinating day, had an in-depth discussion with a magnet designer who was building a prototype array for the LHC at CERN - he looked about twelve

There was so much to see and plenty of sciencey things for the kids to do - brilliant day :D
 
I suspect it's once a year but I'll definitely be going to the next one:)
 
Daresbury near Runcorn not far from me. They actually have an open week and this was the final day, not sure about nuts and bolts but there was a section where the kids could make models of molecules out of Lego :)
 
Your picture shows a willy wonker style room with stuff bolted together you know levers to pull and knobs to press and all that. Right up my alley :D
 
'Fraid not all computer controlled:( It may look a bit Roald Dahl but the things it does are quite amazing, it's actually an experimental power recovery device - the first of it's kind, British science engineering at it's best:) They did have some very shiny nuts and bolts though;)
Talking of chocolate factories, one of the experiments they did (not on this kit) was for Cadbury. They wanted to find out why their new recipe wasn't going down well with the public and asked Daresbury to do some tests - that's easy I said, they've halved the size of the bars and made the chocolate cheaper:( A little bit of light relief for the lab and a break from all the serious stuff they do I guess.
