I had the pleasure to accompany Martin M. to the first Classic Van & Pick-up Magazine show at the Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon on Sunday[^]
The weather was truly awful but we battled through the tail end of Hurricane Bertha and arrived at the wind swept, sodden venue after a 3 1/2 hour drive with Martin's 1960 FC fire engine in tow. The weather had taken it's toll on the numbers on display but those who did make the effort brought a selection of light commercials that made it all worth while[^]
A selection of what was there.
Plenty of empty spaces:I
But gems like these saved the day
When was the last time you saw one of these?
Or one of these
Never seen one of these before, very unusual Minor van
More stuff
ERF Roadranger - I think I prefer the Jennings version:I
The only other Commer there
I rather liked this
I had to get a pic of this, monster banded steels[8D]
The Classic Hearse Register were there in force, and they had a wicked sense of humour
This was a hearse too
jpg" alt="" />
The museum itself was excellent, loads of unusual, and just plain gorgeous, stuff[8D]
Experimental gas turbine Rovers - yes even the first one
Nice dash
The very first Morris Mini Minor
And a beautifully understated early Downton Mini
I know a lot of BMC stuff had a reputation for falling apart but.........
Experimental version of the original Jag V12
In this work of art[^]
This was brilliant, a scale replica hand made by the Austin apprentices
Despite the weather it was a great day, next year should be amazing - thanks Martin.
