coventry commer meets, newbie to be commer convert

hello all i'm dave from coventry!

are there any meets of commer pb owning folk that post on here, is there a coventry commer meetup?

i have had a hankering for a commer pb or preferably a dodge spacevan of some type for a very long time & its getting close to me seriously consiering buying one!

it would b nice to meet up with a few commer van/camper owners to look at some vans to get familier with them, maybe someone would let me come out for a spin in one?

i do have a confession though, i do own a vw t25 camper which i think i'm going to sell to fund getting myself a commer

i did'nt by a vw camper to be part of the so called vw "scene" as i find all that a bit knobbish! i bought a vw camper because i do all my own work on my motors & parts availability is'nt a issue with a ve, but there are drawbacks to owning an aircooled vw such as a lack of any heating :O)

i've seen a few commers knocking about & the draw of owning/driving one has become too great so hopefully i'll be able to get a good one oonce i've sold my vw

oh yeah! who owns the grey diesel panel van i seen in coventry recently! it was an absolute cracker! looked well restored

i understand there is a commer panel supplier & restorer near me to, it wouldbe good to have a natter with them so if you are those flk let me know or give me a PM

i'm off to look through readers rides on here to dream

also were any of the dodge spacevans made into campers?

cheers all from dave-longing to have a commer/dodge camper

considering to be a commer convert!

You just missed a Coventry meet about a month ago unfortunately - oh and welcome to the Madhouse:D
Plenty of Dodge campers around (well one or two) two on ebay at the moment.

i used to live in counden coventry & there used to be a british telecom van storage yard at the top of the road behind the ceders pub, all i remeber from a kid is the the yellow british telecom dodge spacevans! i used to stare at them for ages coming home from infant school! so i think reall yafter all this time i should indulge in one hey! :OP i think thats where the love for certain old cars/vans comes from, what you thought looked pretty cool when you were young you still think looks good years down the line, i've owned a few classics such as minis, still have 3 (what an idiot, love them though lol) i've had a 1976 trumph 2500s, a hillman imp, metro with a 1.8k-series engine that was as quick as a escort cosworth :O) my only two modern cars i've owned are a Toyota starlted turbo (j-import an mx5 and a old old shape nissan/datsun silvia s12 (looked like the old rear wheel drive corolla) i've not had what most people would regaurd a normal daily that fits in with the norm to be honest!

i'm sure the commer is as slow to drive as a vw, whats the noise level like on a commer when on the move? whats the running gear/engine/box is it hillman hunter/minx stuff? i ask as presume the commer/dodge was a rootes/chrysler was it?

whats the ride/handling like in the commers like, they look errrrr bouncy/squidgy?

wheres the best place for me to start looking at/for a commer as they are'nt errrr everywhere :OP

cheers for the replys folks really appreciated!

considering to be a commer convert!

Aussie Series 2A

We like Mini,s too :p
Yes commers are slow, but they are easily tuned to do 70+
the noise level is loud but tolerable. The engine /box is hunter/minx based, the ride is err...............ship like :D
any for sale always end up on here, so stay tuned ;)
