Cooling system, heater and airlocks

Evening all, I have just flushed the engine as the temperature was creeping up and this is the cheapest fix. I notice that the heater is sited higher than the engine, so my question is how do you fill the system, and get it to the heater without airlocks.
My top and bottom hoses get hot, but the heater hoses stay cold???? Any help would be appreciated.
 
Check the tap on the head ;) after that disconnect the hose from it and backfill it whilst blocking the tap usually works :)

I can't find a tap any where, apart from in the sink :p

The heater hose is connected to the bypass, goes through the matrix...supposedly, back to the engine bay to the same side as the first hose...round the back of the cylinder head to the inlet fanimold, through here (a bit like the heated fanilolds that you can get for minis) out of the fanimold and back into the water pump housing. I have felt all over (Ooer!) and can't see a tap.
Of course my manifolds and carbs, look nothing like the workshop manual...for a start there are too many carbs!!!!
I am going to disconnect both hoses to the heater, give it a flush and then try and fill it before reconnecting.
Any more ideas would be fab!!!!!
Oh by the way, we are driving to devon on Friday in her,......from Nottingham...gulp!!!!
 
Am i right in thinking that I don't want the inlet manifold to be heated by the hot water, if it eventually flows? Surely this won't help matters in summer?!?!?!
CAn I disconnect?
 
You've a go faster engine, that's why you don't have a tap [}:)]

Looks like a twin carb jobbie out of the Hunter, by the look of it - judging by the water pump outlet. Probably good for 90 bhp?
 
It's got the same rocker cover as Harvey's Rapier engine[8D] It could also be out of a Humber Sceptre or as Andy says Hunter GT maybe. A very worthwhile upgrade - alloy head[^]

Well if you have a tap on the sink you,re ok then ;)
No tap on that head, it could also be the way it is plumbed in causing no water flow. might be worth substituting a bit of hose for some clesr stuff, then you can see the water flow.
You will be ok to run the manifold unheated, it will just use a bit more fuel from cold, then less when hot :)

manifold heater removed, also got rid of a couple of foot of pipe. refilled the system through the hose to the heater to eliminate air locks, all connected up, and still a cold blummin heater. I might resort to my old trick and plumb in a mini heater matrix someplace cool, to aid cooling.
 
just the matrix[?]:I cheapskate :D[}:)]:D The Colonels got a whole mini heater & it works :p
