hi again, finaly got my van running and it sounds sweet.problem is when i fill the radiator up it runs straight out again but not from the radiator but between the rear of the engine and bell housing.cant get right under van coz of it been lowerd to much.would it be head gasket or are ther any corplugs at rear of engine.thanks swamps:I

theres a core plug at the back of the engine that sits inside the bellhousing,it ALWAYS rots out ,only repair is take the box out and renew it,you could try a couple of cans of radweld but it needs replacing
if anyone takes the gearbox out it always pays to replace this core plug

Hi Garry.. I fear that your core plug that has gone may be
the one on the rear of the cylinder head.. You wont see it, even
if you jack it up.. You may see it if you get a good torch and a dentist type mirror.. On Daves van, (Pre Vauxhall conversion)
I noticed that a 4" sq hole had been cut out of the rear bulkhead/body (just below where the engine lid catches are),and then a plate screwed back on over the hole, just for the purpose of fitting a new core plug.. This might be your best option..
It may save you the job of getting the head off to knock a new one in!;)
Good luck with it..
Cheers.. Will J..

EDIT.. Sorry..Ive just read Steves post, (I must pay more attention in future[)]).. Yes it may also be that one, both sound like a pig to do in situ....

Yep that one went on me. Thought it was the head gasket so took it off, but that's another story. Anyway while the engine was out being re-built the core plug was sorted, there was no way to get at it with the motor in place so if it isn't the one inside the bell housing get your jig saw out - Will's idea sounds sensible.
