Commers on holiday!

Hi Phil & Louise
Hope you had a good holiday. How far into France did you go? Was it Brittany or did you venture further afield? That stretch of motorway is really good in that it doesn't cost anything and by just plodding along you can get through the miles. We were on our way home from the Bordeaux region and were heading towards Cherbourg to catch the ferry.
Nice to see another old van abroad!

We travelled over on the Eurotunnel to calais, drove down following the coast as far as Mont St Michel and then headed back to calais stopping every night in a new place, we found some amazing campsites and free spots to overnight too, we covered 1033 miles over the 2 weeks so not to far but plenty enough for our furthest trip away!

Definately planning on a return trip over there and also into some alternative crossings to limit driving and more time sampling the local grape produce!!!

Yes it is a 108 Long Wheel base and unfortunately its not got a hemi. Its a 5.2 litre V8 (small block) which does the job ok.

Your old van was in excellent shape and clearly had another loving owner. We told him about this forum so you may encounter him in the future.

We are definitely into crossings that cut down on petrol consumption and of course driving. The only problem is that the ferry costs then shoot upwards so what you save on petrol you spend on the ferry. We probably like the portsmouth - caen crossing the most (Brittany ferries), but its not cheap!

If you plan on going further down (ie. away from the ports) make sure you have basic spares with you. French garages are really good and are prepared to improvise but obviously there are times when only the right bit will do!

The Jennings used to belong to a chap by the name of Keith Shepherd, I think that was his name, he was a member of the CCC for many years but sadly had cancer and has not been seen for quite some years now. The Jennings used to be Green and at one time was owned by Martin and Dilys who run the CCC, Keith bought it, restored it to a very high standard and fitted it with an LPG conversion!
Good to see such a lovely van is still around, I hope Keith is as well.

Nice little ford pick-up you've got there. Extremely rare in this country. Here's a picture of a pick-up I sold a year or so ago. Owned it for seven years, had a lot of fun on the drag strip in it and watched it disappear off to Canada!
