Commers on holiday!

Whilst on holiday in France in August, we saw a white highwayman with blue graphics heading towards Rennes. It was good to see another nice old British vehicle abroad. Don't know whether the owner is on the forum or not.

Also saw a mid 70s commer space van (big one with sliding doors) pulling a white hillman imp on an A-frame. The van was from the Netherlands and it was travelling through Braunton (North Devon). I wondered if it had been to commerfest?

The one with the Imp, was it in the last 2 weeks? If so it was probably one of the Dutch Imp Club before or after the Imp Club National meet in Somerset. It was not a space van though, it's a 'Walk Through' van - big squarish thing?

If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

PS.. How rude of me!

Welcome to the Madhouse!!!

We saw the van just over a week ago and this would fit with them going to a run in Somerset. And yes the van was a big box with sliding doors - quite an arresting sight.

Hi Vanman,
I have owned this one since 93, it is a 68 Dodge Xplorer conversion. I have also owned commers, but a long time ago. The Dodge is slightly similar to a commer, it has the engine between the two front seats. However I think the front suspension on the Commer is far more advanced than the Dodge. Leaf springs on the front make for an interesting drive!

Hi Terry and welcome to the Madhouse:D
That is one cool ride you have there[8D] you must be mad driving something that handles even worse than a Commer:I

And relax

Hi all. Thanks for your nice words. And yes it is hard driving a vehicle that handles so badly - the brakes are even worse(drums all round, no servo) After 17 years I've got used to it but I wish that other road users would give older vehicles a bit more space!

Saw this Jennings Road ranger at a small classic car meet at the lizard on Bank Holiday Monday.
