Commers in Iran

This may have neen discussed before so apologies if this is the case.

Does anyone know if the production of the Commer in Iran was using tooling sent from the UK and if so does it still exist ?. Could we one day benefit from a new van in the way in which the VW Bay van is now being produced in Mexico.

Quite possibly, the Hillman Hunter shaped cars were built there as Peykans until very recently I believe. Chrysler/Talbot probably sold the tooling for toher stuff to them as well bearing in mind the Shah was running things there at the time.

production was short lived in iran and they were produced by a company by the name of krodreo cars or something like that the same company who made the hunter. my father had many good contacts all over the world when he was alive, because he used to buy and sell presses and machinery used in the motor industry and had a few contacts at this factory. he asked them if anyone knew about the tooling and the where abouts of it. but alot of the people who use to work there back in the sixties and seventys have long retired and none of the people who work there now seem to know much about the vans or what happened to the tooling once production stopped. sorry but i did try.if someone else wants to try and make contact with them they can but its knowing where to start, obviously theres a language issue to over come etc etc.:(:D

I've asked around about this and been told that the Commers were sold to Iran in knock down form, apparently, when the deal was done for the purchase of the Hunter tooling they emptied all the old tooling from the factory and sent it.... but the Commer / Dodge tooling would have been at Luton not Coventry? sorry this doesn't really help does it.

Also if the lot was sent for the Hunter then the Dodge/Commer was still being built in the UK at that time and was owned by Renault so my guess would be that they scrapped the tooling for the Commer.

Moley and Brian the Snail :)

Do we have anyone in the UK who knows if anything remains of the UK tooling ?
