I have given a home to the Commer Register, finally...

Not many vehicles details have been submitted and the site is pretty basic at the moment but it has email and submission details for those wanting to be added to the register.

I will try and get an update to the site in this week and link tot his/highlight from the home page
 
Search wont bring up mine:( Ill submit again. Is there some way to make the list searchable so you can see at least some info on what is there. Ie the number of Wanderer conversions or Highway man coach builts etc. Perhaps rough location maybe by county.

Hello,

Would be nice if you could add the "coach builder" when you fill out the form... So if the list grows you can search for autosleepers etc.

lso would add a field "Country" as there not all in the UK, and a field "condition" (from concours to demolished/wrecked/trown in the river etc. )

Thanks David, exactly the kind of input I need and I try and get those sorted out in the next couple of hours.

For everyone...
as far as displaying the register for public viewing, what are you happy to have on view? a list comprising of the year of Manufacture, Chassis Number, Colour, Engine size, Model and Fuel??????
All other details are saved off the internet (including Reg numbers).

Just need some feedback so there isn't anybody left unhappy with certain details they would prefer private.

Thanks everybody so far!!!

I am going through the current information that I have already got and trying to perfect the list before it grows too big, I have just been sorting through the info and arranging it in spreadsheet format off the blog and it is surprising how much time it takes to arrange just 10 vehicles and sort through the info in the emails sent.

Special mention goes to Jostein who has sent so much info that there is now about 20 fields of information in the spreadsheet and from looking at his comment he left on the site there is still a couple more to add! ;)

As for everyone else, I am aiming to get the list sorted now as there is some information missing from a couple of peoples registered vehicles and I am hoping to get some emails sent out requesting the information to get the registry up to date for them!

Sorry that it led to an expansion of your spreadsheet, that was not intended :I;)

I did also think that this Commer Registry could have the history of these vans and full technical specifications included on the site. Maybe also an image gallery. So in a sense being a Commer "light forward control van" resource in addition to a registry of existing vehicles. Just a suggestion :)

Thanks for posting the interesting article, Chris.

I doubt whether the Bluebird in picture is any of the ones in my care, as both their mileages are relatively modest - and not on the mileage "visiting France and Spain once a year" would leave on the clock.

That said, the article is a good reminder on how many of these vehicles were used in their heyday. Quite a few of them were taken on regular continental trips deep into Europe. I have some documentation on an engine repair in the Alps on "the other Bluebird" following a piston failure..

I know that some of us/you still do mammoth trips today in these vans, which is great. But thinking back to the sixties and very early seventies when the majority of roads (unless you stuck to the main transit routes) were still gravel and often of pretty poor standard, it makes the long hauls of the day all the more impressive in my eyes.

Yeah, website is still new and won't be easy to find yet.

Got another van submitted today and also spent time yesterday adding other vans to the Register that are unknowns.
Such as.... The Commers on travellershomes
They might turn up at some point.
