Cheers Chris. But managed to make a new one, took longer to age it (I believe the technical term is patinise!) to match the rest of the autosleeper woodwork than it did to actually make it[B)]

Rebuilt Holbay engine is now ready to slot in.
Overbored / tuftrided / balanced / lightened / flowed / blueprinted etc.
Parts alone cost £1297.78 [:0] - and thats with me being in the trade getting a decent discount[:0][:0]
Hopefully it will repay me with some decent horsepower....

Trust me

Nice spec and looking great Jules, even from the outside !

A real shame about the non-starting though, assume you're using the Minx flat-top Hepolites +20 rather than the more common dished pistons ?

What are your options for reducing the compression ? I'm now worried about potential similar issues on our (lightly) rebuilt Holbay

There is someone on here who sells hi-torque starters Jules ;):D
Don,t worry too much as it will very quickly loose compression and tightness once its been run :)
Did you CC it to check c/ratio [?]

Yeah I know its only initially. Have had to tow start new engines for the first fire-up in the past. Dont worry Paul, its only on the very first start after a rebuild, after that it will start fine on the starter motor after its bedded in a bit after an hours running.

Yes Tim, I have heard good things about those high torque starters, especially from Panky ;)
