But its never all good news is it. Snapped the clutch plate doing some power runs & tuning on my local 1/4 mile strip
Power runs in a commer this i got to see [:0]
Got to try out my Holbay lump :I I'd been itching for a year now, and missed the years anniversary of when I first trailered the van into the workshop by about a week I think.
Have now sorted a clutch. Should get it fitted this weekend.
Hi Jules, did you consider leaving the original water pump, viscous fan and thermostat on the engine. I'm swapping bits over from the Commer engine to the Rapier one and I'm very tempted to try but if you've already had a go and it doesn't fit I'll go the Commer route.
I used the rapier pump as more efficient.
I built an alloy stat housing (see earlier this thread) to enable provision of an extra take off pipe for an extra internal heater.
Used electric fan to liberate power (mechanical one absorbs 2 - 4 bhp depending on who you listen to) There is a pic here http://shop1.actinicexpress.co.uk/shops/Rat_Sport/index.php?cat=Electric_Cooling_Fans&ActinicSID=662354df4792082ce2fb5b666ce2046e of the fan installed in the commer (enlarge the chrome one)
yes, go electric panky, pullers are better than pushers, use as big as you can. be careful as well, i had alot of trouble with the j4 when i tried to fit one it didn,t work [B)]
"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"
I've already fitted one, an auxiliary cooling fan off a Citroen BX run off a Kenlowe temp controller. Poor Harveys original lump was rather heat stricken and it needed this to keep its cool [V]
Not sure if there will be enough room behind the rad but while everything is in bits I'll have a go.
Wiring burnt out yesterday in an impressive way - flames just started lapping at the under dash insulation vinyl. What a bummer. I was cursing myself for adding extra unneccessary electrical gizmos. But on investigation it actually turned out to be one of the few original bits of wiring left - back of the key block on the ignition circuit. Guess its just tired and dropped its insulation - its certainly fried now. Glad I fitted a battery master disconnect switch though as turning off the ignition didnt stop it and I was starting to panic until I remembered that thing under the seat. Now I will rewire the van - but dont really have time to add a few more auxilary supplies I was planning on before the spring meet which is a shame. In fact I will have my work cut out to rewire it all in the next few evenings so will be burning some midnight oil.
