Just bought our first Commer - a 1972 PB Autosleeper. She's in pretty good shape overall and has her original interior, complete with original crockery :). But - there are a few things which need attention and I'm thinking about what sympathetic enhancements I can make to make her go less slowly and less revvy!

I've been looking around the forum and I'm amazed by the level of knowledge and innovation there is here. I'm sure I'll be making use of this over the coming months...

I can see why everyone is so enthusiastic about these vehicles - we've already built a bond with ours and we've only had her a week :D

I'll post some pics as soon as I've had a chance to take some decent ones.

A fellow Auto-Sleeperer, good choice[^] Looking forward to the pics but a word of advice is to set your camera on low or medium resolution otherwise the files are huge and sometimes wont load up.
As for going faster and quieter I'm sure you've heard mention of the SU carb conversion, coupled with an overdrive or six speed gearbox and you have a decent cruiser that doesn't drink fuel like I drink beer:D

Welcome to the forum. I would highly recommend the SU conversion. It pays for itself
the overdrive or 6 speeder would also help. You could also fit 15" wheels for cruising purposes. I run an SU and 14" wheels and the original box. 55 is doable easily.

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

The van actually came with an overdrive gear box which the previous owner never got around to fitting. So it makes sense for me to go with that initially. A mate of mine specialises in restoring and race prepping Alpines and Tigers, so I'm hoping he can help source some performance options - although probably not a 4.2 tiger V8! That would just be silly... Wouldn't it??? :)

Hi and welcome your alpine freind wouldnt be chris draycott would he? Excellent bloke to know il be popping over to see him shortly for some bits and pieces myself.
 
It is Chris Draycott! I've known him for 15 years or so from when my wife had a Series 5 Alpine. He's one of my trusted 'go-to' people for any classic car related head scratchers I've had over the years. As you say, he's a great bloke and I'm seeing him next week about the Commer.

You may get there faster, but I have beer in the fridge.
