I have a Commer Van that is beyond any kind of restoration but there are some parts that may be usefull to anyone doing a rebuild.

Engine, Gearbox Axles, Suspension, Glass and various other bits.

Dont want a lot for any of them - probably enough for a curry and a pint. Can help with loading but you will have to collect.

Hi John and welcome to the Madhouse:)
Thank you for thinking of us, I'm sure there will be something someone needs. Can you give us an idea of your location please, and maybe some pics of your van - you would be surprised what can be saved by a determined Commerfan

Commertastic, I need front chrome grill surrounds and 4 hub chrome hub caps more badly than I need 60mph with the wind behind me, all on my list. Also an overdrive box. I’m based in London and Birmingham, could pick up smaller parts for others too if distances not too bad... If not, I’m heading to Normous Newark for the first time on the 9th Dec. I may be lucky with some bits there... My last hub cap committed suicide when I drove my Spacevan last week for the first time in 3 months, ( half a mile walk back to find it) and after having been blasting around in Germany’s finest and fastest I thought all four brakes were seized on on my van, unfortunately not. More speed required for hills at least :)

Howdy John and welcome, I guess many here would have 'could do with' lists, have you considered listing your parts on Ebay?

Do you know what, on my search for spares and other additional van possibilities I have come to the conclusion there are still quite a few hidden vans and even more spares out there. I have found another space van on my travels this week (ex telecom with potential), panel vans are cool period. I think the commervanfan forum profile needs to be raised massively. I had a 67 split screen for 12 years and never even considered a commer or dodge after I sold it because I simply didn’t really come across them or know anything about them. They are huge on space and can be tuned cheaply too. A great alternative to the vw,s which I also love to bits. To get any real umph out of a VW 1600ish you are realistically going to blow 1.5-2k on typically a new engine. You don’t need to spend that on a commer. Think I am going to go on the attack on a bit of promotion for Commer Van world in 2019. Got a contact at Beaulieu last year for Commer spares, did I follow it up or share it, no. Many spares out there hoarded and undiscovered.... many vans have now been scrapped but spares lying around must be commonish. Raise the profile, link with other forums, more spares, more vans unearthed, more out and about... I’ve had a vino, it’s been a long week, here endith commer thought of the week :)

It's great to see your enthusiasm and we totally agree with you. When this forum started Commers where all but forgotten (I always say they skipped a generation or two) but slowly we raised awareness simply by talking about, using and showing our vans. People like Martin Maltas (happy birthday yesterday :)) were at the forefront carrying out superb restorations as well as building a business to supply us with parts and supplying vehicles for the film and TV industries. We had regular meets all over the country, made great friends and had some wonderful times, but over the last few years things have gone a bit quiet. There's still the enthusiasm out there but sites like Facebook have grown in popularity to the detriment of this site, with many of our members preferring to share their experiences over there, but there doesn't seem to be anyone involved willing to organise any events or meets but plenty asking if anyone else is going to.
If you can manage the long trip up North the next show we will be doing is up in Moffat in Scotland, usually the last weekend in June, but if there's anything going on before that then we're in:)

Dear All

I am amazed by the welcome - temped to get out the welder and go for it !

Unfortunately just moved house and have a smallholding to help run.

Based in Warwick and to be honest the van really is a basket case but the engine, gearbox, axles and some glass may help someone.

Not going onto ebay - would prefer to help someone load up hopefully they would have enough spare change for me to buy a pint and a Curry.

Thanks again for the Welcome -

John

Well, although there are probably bits for me, I would rather help keep the van in one piece but it’s down to rust to some extent and rarity of van. I lived in Leamington Spa for ten years just up the road from you and still back there regularly. Happy to come and assess for the forum and help post some photos and list bits if that’s the way it’s got to go but would rather it was saved as soo few left. My email is [email protected] if you don’t want to post your contact details. I’m going to post details of the Spacevan I’ve found in Peckham too.

Hi John, I’m passing through Warwick this Sunday if you are free for me to take some photos? Would love to promote it for someone to restore it if it’s not too far gone...
Regards Retro Andy :)
