Commer Suntor

The SU is the best mod you can do in my opinion, makes a huge difference. There's a Powerspark 45 dizzy you can get for a Minor for about £60, still wondering if it will fit a Commer. I've got a spare Commer dizzy and a Minor one, I'll compare them tomorrow.

I dug a couple of grotty examples of dizzies out to compare.

Morris on the left, Rootes on the right

The Morris one is labelled DM2 and the Rootes 25D but they are essentially the same.

The 25D fitted into my spare Morris engine so it follows that the Morris one will fit a Commer, not sure about the vac advance curve though.
So if a Minor one fits that means a Mini one will too, opens up many possibilities including the electronic dizzies from the later models:)

Update as I keep forgetting to update it. This is what the van currently looks like.

She's currently in Norfolk with Tin having some work done including the 6 speed box. Cant wait to get it back!

Rat look doesn't describe it, that's for the darkside - I would call your van shabby cool:cool:

Cheers, I like shabby cool ha. It will slowly become less shabby as time goes on I hope. Just really wanna get it reliable and useable ha

Right this head ache turned up from Martin haha. I hate wiring but the wiring in this van is pretty bad so starting again seems like the best option.

Hoping to get the van usable ready for a show in March

Good luck leaky and good choice. My loom killed itself after an upgrade to the dynamo and was a pricey rebuild... So best sort before it goes puff!

Cheers, yea I hate wiring I had loads of issue with one of my minis wiring and in the end a new loom on that was the easiest thing and sorted out the issues, obviously new looms are not available for the commer so getting one and getting it refurbed if the next best thing,

Got a good stash of parts now.

There are a few other bits as well, I have a cone filter that I currently can't find ha, That and the electronic ignition is going up to tim to be fitted while he is playing with the engine. the rest I'll do when the van is back, can wait till its home so I can start playing!

Front lowering springs have arrived from Martin

Will get the rear ones as well once I have paid Tim off for the work he's doing and I have saved a few more pennies

Remember these springs have the same rating so they wont be any stiffer so it would help even more if you put some uprated dampers on too. the Hi-Lux ones are supposed to be pretty good. Tim can tell you all about them;)
Also change the oil in the rear Armstrong dampers for SAE 40 or 50, it makes a big difference and only cost a couple of pounds:)
