Commer Prime Mover

I was out for my lunch time walk today when I came accross this beauty in a back street of Blacktown NSW Aust. I got these pictures and had a quick look around. A lovely job done by someone down here.

The badge on the grill says "Rootes Diesel". I would assume it has a TS3 in it, hard to see, but the drive belt to the supercharger was clearly visable under the rear of the cabin. The number plates are specials for historic rego and permits limited movement for servicing and club runs etc.

I was hoping the owner would come back and drive off as I haven't heard one of these running in reality for many many years

I think the twin headlight models were generally TS3 engined, it could be Perkins though. The TS3 supercharger is at the front and is shaft driven :)

They're the intakes not exhaust. Can't say I noticed the exhaust location at the time. The "living accomodation" probably comes from an old Sydney Water maintenance truck. Their trucks were often fitted with these so that could carry a work crew to on site jobs, they used to be very common in the 70's. The railways had the same set-up on thier trucks too, but I suppose rules and OHS safety regulations killed them off.
