Morning commervanfans,
I have a problem which I hope someone can help with.
My Commer broke down 7 months ago and has been standing since due to a knackered carb.
I have recently fitted a new weber carb (replacement from speedy spares.
I have tried and tried to start it but to no avail.
I have checked the following:
1. Replaced the spark plugs with new ones.
2. Cleaner rotor arm and contacts in dizzy cap
3. Checked for a spark and there is one.
It is firing but just will not run.
Now here are the areas that I think may be causing the problem, but I'm not 100%.
1. The new carburretor came with 2 gaskets exactly the same size and I have fitted them both on, one on top of the other. Could the carburretor be too high off the inlet manifold?
2. The carburretor has elongated holes where the fixing bolts go through. This means that it can be slid from side to side. Could it be posible the hole at the bottom of the carburettor is not inline with the hole going into the manifold?
3. The van is parked sideways on, on a slope so the manifold is pointing down the slope (passenger side at the lowest point, drivers side at the highest point). Therefore, fuel is running out of the maifold drain pipe because it is not being burnt as the engine won't run. Is it possible that all the fuel is draining out of the drain pipe and I have a classic case of fuel starvation?
you may suggest that I move the van onto the flat and try it. This would be very easy if the brakes weren't stuck on due to 7months of inactivity!!!
If moving it onto the flat is the only option then I guess I will have to try and find a way of towing it although currently I can't find a tow hook or anywhere to attach a rope without it bending bodywork whilst being pulled.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received as I want to hear the old girl spring into life again!
Cheers
Dave
