Commer EV

Hello all, I’m new here and have recently discovered an unloved 1967 Commer Van here in Queensland Australia. I want to keep the Commer dream alive here down under however finding parts will be difficult. I have a full metal and mechanical workshop and understand I will need to make all required trim, panels and lenses myself (expected and very possible). My question to the obvious mainstream Commer lovers is this…

…will I be hung, drawn and quartered if I do an EV conversion? I only ask as doing this will greatly reduce the parts list and bring the vehicle up to a modern day daily driver. The size and design of the Van lends itself to the conversion as a large battery would easily fit along with the all-wheel-drive system which is needed in Australia. As much as I’d like to keep the originality, I’m not sure keeping it original will be possible so far from a spare parts Mecca you seem to have at your disposal. I’d like to hear your opinions and advise? I’m open to all comments, and if I do go ahead with the conversion, I’m happy to supply all my discoveries and challenges it brings in case some of you are interested. I look forward to hear your thoughts. Cheers, Tim.

Not by me - I have thought it for years - lots of roome for boxes of cells between chassis rails

Hi and welcome :) We've had many different types of conversions from Vauxhall and Ford 4 bangers to Lincoln V8 and Isuzu diesel so why not battery. Personally I'm luddite and wouldn't give any EV drive space but as a must needs project then go for it. After all the Corgi constructor set did have a milk float;)
