commer diff

Hi. Was testing the water to see if anyone had a higher diff for sale in good condition also. Though I've got a Spacevan i think it has a low diff on it for some reason. Would it make a big difference people think? (im running 15" wheels too).

if anyone has one that's near enough to collect ill check it to make sure.

thanks

Jim

I have a Spacevan axle, not stripped it yet, so don't know the ratio.

Thanks martin...ill double check mine hopefully over the weekend. Found a youtube vid to jack it up spin the rear wheel and count the turns compared to to the prop shaft

The 4.7 was fitted to vans with 14" wheels I think - others available for 15" wheels where 5.12 and 5.62:)
I think a Supersnipe one will fit - 4.2:1 but it might be a bit too tall:I

Supersnipe is too big for the casing, I tried one[B)]

Forgive my stupidity...so 4.7 is that many turns of the prop to one turn of the wheel. Therefore lower the number the less revs? So 4.7 is the best you can get on a commer?

You have to fit the supersnipe complete axle but bolts straight on ive got one here with the tallest diff rootes did. Ive got a p5b one here as well that I might part with for the right money;) You wont get much taller than one of them which is the right width for a commer/dodge you only have to cut and weld your leaf spring mounts job done[8D]

Good memory panky, yep got one im saving for a redtop conversion and a 'Tim Special' suspension setup...2/3 years away from affording that though, just collecting the parts if they come up cheap. Someone told me you'd need 100+ HP to pull the Rover axle properly cause of the ratio...saying that I've not even checked the ratio yet. Maybe ill do that tomorrow...might be an option if its not too tall.

Hasta la supervista baby

It is a p5b...3.54:1 - don't think 80hp will pull that

P4 diff looks the way to go 4.3 and its interchangeable on the p5b axle

Hasta la supervista baby

No, 80 bhp won't pull it [xx(]

I tried 4.3 in the J4 (100bhp@wheels)and it was too tall, so dropped to 4.5 which is perfect. But don't overlook wheel size/rolling radius as it makes a big difference :)

P5B axle is wider too ;)

Thanks Tim...maybe ill just go 4.7, so will the p5b axle fit ok then and Relating to that...the 5 link set up what coilovers are recommended?

Hasta la supervista baby

Yes it will, with suitable mods, just ask Kermit ;)

Coilovers can be any make, preferably not cheapo brand. It depends on which way you want to do it, either turret the inner arches and com through the floor, or keep it all short and under the floor.
With turrets you will need a threaded rod top on them and they can be about 16-18" long. Under the floor they will need eyes both ends, rose joints ideally, and much shorter 14" max.:)
And make sure they are for 2 1/4" I/D springs, as there is plenty of choice that way ;)

Cool, looking at mo, that 5 link is a work of art...love it and need it for stage 1 of the plan. Trying to pick up a 4.7:1 for the PB axle till the bigger change. So the coil overs no more than 14" extended? Seem quite tough to find for the weight/length... I'll keep on it.

We're Kermit's any particular type/or from a certain van before?

Did you check what diff you're running now?

Kermit's are AVO shocks Jim. Adjustable damping and spring preload, weight is entirely down to the spring rating. Takes 10 mins to change a spring. They came off a race car.
Unless you're willing to come through the floor with them, then they need to be short to fit under there ;)
