COMMER CALTHORPE CAMPERVAN

Hopefully tree braking method not needed as a regular driving technique[:0] Driving with the door open a common feature on normal doored commers too - but only when they pop open on corners & roundabouts[:0];)

He does have a tourstar, 2 tone green, but call him Keith, but could be same quy. Because i don't know of another Commer Calthorpe, but if any body does please let me know. Thanks the Fearn:)
 
[V]Sorry Fearns, I did mean Keith not Alan. Think it fairly safe to say you have only Commer Calthorpe ..unless anyone else knows differently? Has the Highwayman gone to a good home?:D
 
Yes i do believe the Highwayman has gone to a loving home, very sad to let it go, i still miss it and the room inside, but time to move on.:(I've wanted a Calthorpe ever since i first saw a picture of one, so i'm one happy chap:)

Hi Fearns, Im new here. I on a hunt to find my grandparents old van and yours looks similar, I think I recognise the curtains. Do you know the history?
I know it was a 60/61 and they bought it from new. The Reg no. was UPL 973 or something like that, although it may well have had to be re-registered.
It would be great to find out if its the same van.

Lovely Camper you have there. We are almost certain that it belonged to my Grandparents. Im siandavis82's brother. My mum recognises the curtains in your picture because my grandma made them! And the loop that you can see dangling down behind the windscreen was put there by my grandpa so that my grandma could hold on (eek!). They bought it new in 1961 and used it for everyday transport and touring round Europe with up to 4 kids including our Mum in it. It was put in their garage in about 1975 and stayed there until just before it was sold around 5 years ago or so. I remember it being dragged out on to the drive and it wouldn't run and was rather seized. I managed to shunt it about the drive by putting it in gear and turning the starting handle.
We are just curious really about what has happened to it and what condition it was / is now in. We know the person that bought it from my grandparents had in mind that they were going to restore it and we have been looking on various classic camper and commer websites for ages to see if it turns up.

[Hi, great to see your messages, just been away for long hols to Isle of Skye, so not been on for awhile. The Calthorpe is all tucked up in the garage at the mo, its been freezing, so restoration is awaiting warmer weather! It did originally be long to D.W. Jones who part exchanged his 1959 Morris Oxford for it in July 1961. I hope your mum and grandparents had many happy holidays in it.:)Where did she go?

Hi, can't reply to your email address, it won't send, i have replied to your sisters, Rhys, it was great to hear from you both! Will post more photos of the van when i can. I saw a picture a few years ago of a Calthorpe and I said i want one!:) It was that roof!! that did it, i like quirky things, so when one came up i had to have it, and i love my commers so PERFECT COMBINATION. Glad you all loved it too.

Neither, Fearns is doing it himself, he finished the Jennings a while back, now it's time for the Calthorpe ;)
