Commer BF3023 restoration project

Hi all, just thought I'd introduce myself and my current project - a 1965 Commer BF3023 Luton bodied van which I intend to restore and use. I am a long time classic car enthusiast and I also work on them for a living in my own workshop. I live on a Narrowboat with my Wife and two Dogs and 2 Cats. Hopefully you will see an attached picture of the van....

Is there anyone else out there who has a similar van or maybe some spares - I've posted a wants ad for some spares and a workshop manual and it would be great to exchange details and maybe meet up(the kettles always on)!

Now you don't see one of these every day, I think I have only seen an ice cream van on this chassis recently. You are unique on here I think but what a great van [^]. By the way your lifestyle sounds idyllic [8D]

great to hear from you, really special van - nice to know it has found an owner that can give the old girl a pampering. Good luck with the restoration, this one must be pretty rare which would make it harder to source things but even more worthwhile. If you have a rummage around the forum there are a couple of folks that have excellent knowledge on the bigger vans, hope you find some useful contacts for help and spares.

I have a friend with a walk-thru van who has recommended him - so may be worth a try.

Hope you get a chance to post some progress reports here as would be wonderful to find out how you get on. Lovely to hear of the narrowboat, is something I've always fancied but a distinct lack of canals in Pembrokeshire.

ive got one with a camper body,
the original rootes part list book is publication no 6601408
designation B&BF 15/30 CWT MKV
is yours a diesel?if not it should have the humber hawk engine fitted and spares are generally available from speedy spares
may have a new gearbox and new steering box if you get desperate
hugh boultbee off this site is really up to speed on this model and has a couple of projects on the go so if you need anything just pm me
 
Hi Steve, thanks for the reply, your camper looks fantastic - is it on the road or awaiting attention? My van is fitted with the Humber 2000cc engine which runs well but as the van has no brakes at the moment I dare not test it too hard yet! I can't locate a master cylinder (one of the mountings has sheared off on mine) and I'm probably going to need wheel cylinders/shoes etc so I wondered if I could have Hugh Boultbee's contact details.

Hi Kevin
Just noticed that you live on a narrowboat. I don't currently have a Commer, but I do part own a narrowboat.
Here's a picture of her on the Caldon Canal taken this summer on a typical summers day [8D]

hi chris :), no apologies needed, that is a lovely boat, does look a bit commer like, only less rusty [:0]

BF rear and master cylinders were available until fairly recently as fork lift truck parts, even though n/a under Commer part numbers, they are the same casting nos. - just run them past a good all round fork truck man!!
