hello and welcome to the asylum kennelman, the best way to remove underseal if its hardened is a old wood chisel as a scraper and if its soft then parafin and rags and gloves!!! the best place for the workshop manual is the footman james classic show and auto jumble at bath and west show ground regularly listed in the classic car weekly news paper, theres loads of stalls that just do manuals, good luck with the resto hope this helps and we would like pictures please

The main chassis ID should be on a small light alloy plate riveted somewhere inside the cab. Can't remember exactly where it's usually located but I shall attempt to look at one of mine tomorrow. However, the ice cream van body builders may have done something with it or it may even have been removed and lost. There will probably be another place where the same number is stamped somewhere on the chassis but I don't know where and it will probably be different to tell it from rust or muck by now. The driver's handbook may say where the plate is normally located but I don't have one to hand at the moment and it might take a while to dig it out so it will be easier to look at the real thing.
At present I could probably supply a workshop manual for the BF Mk V which would cover the OHV petrol engine and I also have a 'Light Diesel' supplement, if required. This manual is relatively early, though, and refers only to the 25 cwt chassis so might not cover every aspect of a 30 cwt or a very late example of the BF.

Just realised you're in Goole, not that far from me
Paul, I have just checked for the position of the chassis ID plate on one of my BF 3023s. It's a small plate, perhaps 3 inches square, riveted to the panel below the windscreen to the RH side of the dash mounting panel and quite visible, even from the driving position.
The other van is a bit more difficult to get at, especially after dark at this time of year but I may see if that one is the same in due course.
The van I have just checked is a BF 3023, 1960 and the chassis code starts 98A. Yours may be similar or may be on the updated chassis code system which would actually give BF3023 as the chassis number prefix.
As far as I can establish, all 25 cwt and 30 cwt models had the longer wheelbase (10' 3"), either Mk IV or Mk V. Mk V 'long' (123") could be either BF2523 (1956 on) or BF3023 (1957 on), both running to 1966, and the shorter wheelbase was used for the 1 ton Mk V (1959 on) with designation BF2011 (20 cwt, 111" wheelbase).

Have you finished the commer van yet? I would like to have a look when you have finished, i have a floor standing sweden freezer if any good to you but parts are missing
