Hi folks we are looking for an autosleeper - willing to pay fair price for a nice one or dont mind if it needs a bit of tidying.
We're classic car fans (stag and two moggy minors) so aware of the ins and outs, but have not had a van before. We saw one at a show a few years ago and loved it !
Based in surrey.
Any info greatly appreciated :)

Hi Doug and welcome to the Madhouse:D
Looks like you better join the queue I'm afraid:( There's been a few folk asking lately so you've got competition, the world seems to be wakening up to Commers, some of us of course have been conscious for years:)
Don't tie yourself down to an Auto-sleeper though - admittedly they are the best but there are plenty more conversions out there that will do the job almost as well;)

Hi Panky
Thanks! yeah seems there re a few people looking to buy.
Is there a list of van types and their names ? Especially campers. I think what we're after is calked an autosleeper (steel sides as opposed to with larger caravan-like sleeping area) But as you say some other type might well do the trick!
For example we're not too bothered about a popup roof really - handy but not essential.
Thanks

There are loads of conversions on the panel van and Auto-sleeper is just one of them, the basic van is the same it's just the interior layout and roof design that's different. There are more Auto-sleepers on the road as they were produced in larger numbers (Auto-sleeper used Commers exclusively for ten years) but still many other conversions around if you can find them;)
There's a list on here somewhere but I cant find it just now but I'll look again later.

Hi we're still looking for a commer camper.
One thing: we've really only seen one up close a few years ago and was wondering whether anyone is taking theirs to a show so we can oggle it and work out how the interior is set up? Autosleeper 'size' is what we're after. We're based near godalming in surrey. Anything happening around that area ? We promise not to salivate on it too much. Just tickle its chin etc.

Hi Doug and welcome. Is it defiantly an Autosleeper that you want? Their are many different conversions, maybe try and get to some classic shows throughout the summer to try and see as many different conversions as you can. Mines an haylett Olympian and I'm more than happy with it.

We're not down your neck of the woods so cant help with a van tour, sorry, but there should be a few down there. Auto-Sleepers, Hayletts, Wanderers, Car Campers, Maidstones - there's a few van conversions so you'll come across one eventually. Good choice with the Moggys, I run a traveller as my daily:cool:

Thanks people!
Doesnt have to be an aotosleeper. Sorry, in my newbie-ness i thought that meant 'standard van sized' but now i realise it's a particular conversion. We're after a camper, or van to convert to camper, standard panel van size as opposed to the type with larger accommodation at the back. So the smaller type. Reason is easier storage, and the roads around here are tiny. Any conversion type would do. Even a non camper would be handy to view to get the size of them. Cheers !
What a chummy lot you are :-D
