CO emissions

More of a curiosity, I’ve had the krypton tuner out to set the exhaust emissions on tickover (guess on an SU’s the fuelling is the needle anyhow past tickover) but are there recommended CO levels for the 1725 engine as can’t find them anywhere. I’ve got mine to 1.5% but is that weak? I know pre ‘86 limit is 4.5% but is there an official % figures set by Rootes or does it even matter bar the environment?

Don't know of any official figure but when I got the Mini tested (not the same I know but engine design is of a similar vintage) the CO was way over 4.5 The guy let me adjust it down to 1.5 and he was happy - the car ran a lot better too. IIRK I actually richened the mixture as it was too weak resulting in poor combustion. So yes it is important for the engine too as a rich or weak mixture won't do it much good in the long run.
Leave it as it is and check the plugs after a good run to make sure the colour is OK

Cool ta Panky, was going to stick the ColourTune in it also when I get time also - great piece of kit to look inside an engine

Yep they're very good to set the idle mixture but do the hot run test and check plugs later just to check.

Couple of years ago it went on a rolling road with a SU expert To customise the needle so hopefully the mixture should be good through the range. He also managed to remove a couple of flat spots when accelerating
