Hi,
I have a leaking clutch master cylinder and I am going to try and rebuild it.
I have the seal kit.
Has anyone done one before and any photos or advice?
It's for the later commer I think? 1972
Thanks
The hardest part is getting the pin out of the end of the pedal/cylinder rod (and replacing it) The big return spring needs to be levered out of the way to get access to the pin, awkward but do-able, I think I used an open end spanner as a lever slipped in behind the spring to give me some room. Would also advise giving the assemble a blast with a pressure washer or air line to get rid of some of the grease and dirt that builds up so you can see what's what.
I eventually fitted a new cylinder after about three years but it probably would have lasted longer. I changed it when I had issues after fitting a new clutch - changed master and slave but it eventually turned out to be a faulty new clutch plate
Another tip is to give the seals a smear of red rubber grease on assembly to lubricate the cylinder bore.
Check the inside of the cylinder for any major scoring or pitting if you find any, i wouldnt even bother to rebuild it as it will probably leak again after a short while.
A new one is a quick and easy one time job..
