Clutch help please

Help needed please, So I got my van started after sitting for 7 months, and fitting new starter motor and battery, the clutch pedal had no resistance so we bled the system, no change, I can engage gears with the engine off but not when its running.
The clutch arm?? at the end of the slave cylinder piston seems to be fully engaged pushed towards the rear of the van, and there seems to be no resistance from the clutch, So I took off the half moon shaped plate(lower clutch housing cover plate?) to look inside,it was very oily and a fair bit of brown gunk and I found a loose 3inch diameter circlip or washer? not sure as it is partly damaged, there also seems to be a bit of End Float play? not sure what to do next as its new territory for me,
many thanks Cemlyn

I'd remove the slave cylinder and see if it's seized. Easiest thing to look at as well, the master is a pain in the bum and the clutch itself requires splitting the gearbox from the engine. If it's seized order a new one from Speedies/MM.

Thanks for the advice Bazz sorry might have explined it wrong, Im sure its not seized as its moving ok when depressing the pedal but just no resistance at all and the clutch arm? moves freely, could the clutch be stuck in? sorry for being vauge but not sure how it all works in there..

Dont really want to take it all out without a plan

cheers

Sounds like the clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel - try this

Ah that sounds promising will give it a go, thanks Panky.. any idea what the metal ring circlip thingy is for ?

cheers Cemlyn

The only thing I can think of is possibly part of the crankshaft oil seal, might explain the oily gunk as well:I Can you post a pic of the offending object.
