Citroen zx xud diesel maybe?

hey guys, sadly i have been under my zx today and found a bit of a rotten patch[B)]. not to bad at the moment but because of where it is it will be to much work to justify on the old beast, so she will have to be scrapped:(. but it got me thinking. the engine in it is a xud 1.9TD as used in peugoats, rovers and citroens, its a cracking engine thats been really well looked after so i dont really want to scrap it. does anyone know if you can get a rear wheel drive gearbox that fits them? as i may try to fit it in dolly. im sure it would be powerfull enough and its got the bosche fuel pump so will run on a 50/50 veg oil mix no problem :D
 
Why not try to mate it to the Commer gearbox?

may be worth looking into then, the other prob is that the engine has a top mount over the cam cover. so dont know if i can do away with that mount or fit a mount into the commer body somehow
 
well after some research i have learned that i can mate an LDV pilot box to the engine to make it rear wheel drive so its possible as long as it will fit in the hole and clear the crossmember. the only problem is that if im gonna do that i cant help thinking "why not just buy LDV engine and box and put that in dolly"
 
Beacuse the LDV engines are noisy as not much good! I had a convoy, and was it noisy! My new Maxus is lovely and quiet by comparision. Some of the Convoys and Pilots ran with a Pug engine, which explains why the box will fit it. However, the biggest problem with modern engines is the quantity if anciliaries bolted to the side of them, especially front wheel drive cars. I think your biggest problem might be getting the engine to fit between the chassis rails, and also how to change gear with a different manual box.

yh thats true, may measure it up and see whats what. im also considering other engines that could go straight in but it the gear change that makes it difficult. im considering other vans like mazda e2000 petrol, e2200 diesel, bedford midi diesel, sierra 1.8 cvh and some others. the advantage of the mazda is that the gear change is in the same place so should not be to hard to convert if it will fit in the hole. i know i sierra 1.8 will fit as its not a big engine but not sure it will be strong enough? but with that i could go auto
