choke sticking on?

AHA, it sounds like the cable has snapped. They are cheap to buy and easy to fit. You can get a universal one just make sure it's long enough - get the tape measure out. You may have to buy one longer than is fitted and cut it down - unless some one can supply one the correct length.

Where is the best place to get the wire from, and is it as simple as taking the knob off and re connecting the wire and threading it through?

First thing to check is if the cable is still fixed securely to the carb, is it moving as you pull the choke out? It could be that it has come loose and just needs tightening up where it passes through the nipple on the carb end.
If it doesn't move at the carb end will the cable pull out completely as you pull on the choke knob?
If it does then the cable has snapped.
You can push a new inner cable through the old outer one if this is the case.
I got a new one off ebay, I just measured the original and got one that was longer. Search for universal choke cable on ebay and see what comes up.

Hi Panky, i have checked the old wire and its fine, but i can`t get the wire back in now, it goes about 2 inches into the hole and then stops. I am brginning to get stressed.

It sounds like the cable has snapped and the frayed ends are stopping it going back in. Don't worry it's an easy job to replace it.

I have connected the choke back onto the spindle and when i pull the choke knob nothing happens, but when i pull it manually nothing happens. The wire is fine so i don`t know what i am doing wrong.

i think i have fixed the problem(and i now deserve a beer), there was a second bit of tubing that wasn`t allowing the wire to move, the tubing was moving instead. So i took the tubing off and shortened the wire and so far so good. What a day.:)
