Carburettor / air filter problem

Hi All you mechanically minded people. I need a bit of advice...

I decided to take off the old air filter with the airbox and fit the K&N RU-1820. Took the pipe off the duct (when i say duct i mean the thing in the second picture down on the air filter thread that Tim posted) and fitted the filter no problem, but when i came to fit the duct back to the top of the carb i noticed it sits very loosely (can be easily pulled off). I have tightened the clip as far as it will go, but it still comes off. Has anyone got a solution to this? Is there anything i can fit to make it a tighter seal etc?

Hope you can all understand what i mean despite my lack of technical wording! Any help would be gratefully received.

I had this issue when I changed my carb to a webber, the air box was a very sloppy fit indeed

Make some saw cuts in the airbox with a hacksaw (the bit that actually sits onto the carb, just those couple of cuts removes a couple of mm off the circumference thus it will make it that much tighter when you tighten the jubilee clip

you could also wrap some insulation tape round the top of the carb thus effectively making the top of the carb that little bit fatter:D

It already has a couple of cuts in it, one on each side, but i might put a couple more in. I had wondered about some tape, but being a mechanical ignoramus, i hesitate to do things without asking someone's advice. I worry about doing anything in case i bugger up the engine.

Col, does your air box rub on the engine cover slightly with the Webber? Mine does a little, so I've had to grease the top of it, yuk [xx(]
 
Had exactly the same problem on Sybhil, as Colin says just make a few more slits in it :)

Don't know to be honest, have just painted it though so I guess I will find out soon lol
