Hi there do you know what model webber can be fitted to the commer pb?

speedy sell a £140 webber but I dont really want to commit 140 to guess that my problems are carb related.

are there other models that fit? what model is the one for the pb I know I will need to machine up an adapter on the milling machine to adapt it. are there any other options for carb replacement, (I tried to swap for a second hand zenith and the peformance has become worse!)

For a simple, 10 minute job... fit the webber from Speedies, made a big difference to Wilma.

Sybhil has a HIF44, but can be done to suit a hs4/hs6/hif38 as well.all S.U,s are tuned just by swapping needles, no jets to worry about :) plenty of good 2nd hand ones about too ;)

I absolutely love SU carbs. They are so simple to tune and set up. This is one mod I think I'll be doing sooner rather than later, along with the inlet and exhaust manifold 'seperation'.

They are easy to play with and get going, but can be hard to find the EXACT needle needed without the dyno, due to having so many to choose from :)

I can certainly recomend the SU carb conversion - no idea how well it works but it looks really good on my shelf :I

(Sorry Tim - I promise I will get round to fitting it soon!)

I am developing good power on twin 150 Stromies. I have found in the past that SUs dont like working at an angle

as far as I know, SUs have different float chamber mounts depending on the angle they are fitted at. The manifold Tim has done for me puts the float chamber flat (and Its a hif so shouldn't be a problem anyway)

I think some SUs have float chambers that can be adjusted as well.

Fair point. But SUs also dont seem to get on with the forced induction that I have (I guess thats only relevant to me :I). I did experiment with SUs but went back to Stromies. I was contemplating a move to twin 40s after someone demonstrated it could be done and still keep the seat, but I will follow Steve Williams advice and not bother.

ah for forced induction you'll need a metro turbo carb! It also depends on whether you have the overpressure before or after the carb too. I think SUs rely on atmospheric pressure too (above the float chamber) so if the air is over atmospheric it will squirt the fuel back into the tank!

there have been a few supercharged morris minors which use SUs an aparently go quite well.

SU,s work really well on a suck through set up, on a blow through the throttle shaft seals can leak and as BMM says fuel pressure needs increasing.
Remote float models can be used at an angle, concentric float HIF,S need the angled float :)
