Camshafts

Hi all.

I have a timing issue and I have been investigating what camshaft I have fitted.

I can see various information in the two workshop manuals I have got for opening and closing angled for inlet and exhaust valves. I have tried to measure it with a degree wheel. But It makes no sense.

I have a receipt from Speedy Spares in 2004 (bride I owned it) which matches the parts book for a low compression camshaft. I have just done an engine rebuild and took this picture. Can anyone identify what can it is from the not very good photo?

Is there a stamping on the end of the cam? Not that I could tell straight away from that but it would be a good reference point.

The cam is back in the engine in the van. I have the front end open but I can’t take it out without removing sump and oil pump. So this is the only picture I have.

There are some numbers stamped on the shaft that I can’t make out and some tan paint. Also the lobes seem quite pointed. Here is an enlargement.

Ok here are the figures I have all very different. The degree of opening is least in the 994 workshop manual at 235 degrees. Rising to 281 for low compression and 313 for high compression in the later manual. I assume there must be at least three types of cam originally fitted to Commer PBs.

If I have the later supplied Low Compression cam I assume I have the 281 degrees open version. I am going to try and check it with 19 thou gap as note in Olyslager and in WSM tomorrow.
