Camper Hire

As most of you know, Karen and I have been hireing out some of our Commer Campers for holidays and special occassions. After much deliberation, we have decided not to do it this year, mainly due to the very high insurance costs [V]
We have therefore decided to thin out the campers a little [:0] So over the next few days we will be putting up adverts for Dolly (the Toursatar) and Daisy (the Clearway).
We will be carrying on with the spares and restoration side and next week our new building arrives, to double the size of the workshops.
Karen and I would like to thank all the members who helped support the hire business, by distributing leaflets at shows etc.

sorry to hear that martin,a real pity after all the hardwork and effort you both put into it.
on the brightside a couple of lucky people are going to get superb vans

Can only reflect what steve has already said its a shame to part with such splendid vans but someone very lucky is going to benefit from all your hard work. Could not of been an easy decision to come to but very best of luck with selling them

It's a sad day but you can only do so much for a limited return, so much hard work put into a wonderful idea:(

Sad news hearing the hire vans will be sold, the decision would have been hard to take to sell these off. :(

All the best of happy travels to each of the new owners who purchase these beautiful vans too. ;)

(Does sound like some major works occurring with the workshops being doubled, likewise all the best to Martin and Karen regarding the restoration business expansion).[8D]

Really gutted for you both, looking at the adverts in cv+p i thought this was going to be a good classic venture by the right people and even if it wasnt a raging success was going to at least hold its own.:(

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labottomy!

Sorry to hear the news about the hiring side.

grrrr insurance for everything has gone up this year, its a real shame especially with your other house adaptations to accommodate this side of the business.

I'm sure whoever buys the girls will not be disappointed with the fleet standard!

A true shame, was a great way to introduce people to the wonderful world of commers, and maybe lever a few away from the darkside ;).... once driven always smitten....

Sorry to see that insurance has spoilt a nice little business[:(!].
Somebodys going to get a chance to own a very nice van:p.
Hope my numbers come up tomorrow:I:D.

Sorry to hear your news :(

When I've restored my battenburg I'm going to have a go at hiring down here in Sussex - was hoping you'd get 'em oop there, I'd get 'em down here and we might educate a few dubbers to how much more practical these beasties are.

I've had a quick shufty at the insurance and been quoted around £1200 [:0] per vehicle up to £7000 in value. There are a couple of agencies who will take care of all insurance/booking/advertising etc in return for 25% of the hire fees. I'm sure you will have checked all avenues, but this is something I'm considering.

Anyway, I'll certainly be supporting your spares business very shortly :)

We paid £1500 per vehicle last year and have been told it would have gone up this year [:(!]

OUCH - that is gonna hurt! I've heard it said before that the best way to have a small business in this country is to start off with a big one! [V]

Check the insurance conditions very carefully. The first quote we had, didn't cover the vehicles for theft by the hirer, if we used the vehicles personally, or whilst parked in our yard [:0]

Thats a great shame. Once again our wonderful insurance companys put paid to a decent little niche business. Why the vans cannot be insured on a pay as you use policy I dont know, its widely done with hire cars so your only paying when the vehicles are actually out on hire. Another example of why our once fine country is in the mess it is.
