I have been trying to find if this has been covered before. I am a member of the RAC which covers me for a Roadside & Recovery as a driver or passenger in any eligible vehicle, this costs £95.40 per year and if I want to extend it to cover 'At Home' or within 1/4 mile from home this will cost an extra £31.50 because its 50% off. I wonder if anyone has any experience of the different breakdown firms and which ones are recommended. I also wonder about the words "in any eligible vehicle".

first of all, in case i missed something, how did the op go Les?????

my breakdown cover is all included in my commer insurance and includes home start, recovery etc, the whole thing inclusive is only £104 a year.....ditch the RAC.....just my opinion:)

my insurance covers breakdowns also[^] not sure on home start though i think i have to be 3 miles or more away from home:( still think i would push it for 3 miles as not to pay[}:)]:D:I

I don't think a dodgy hip would qualify as an eligible vehicle;)

First of all thank you everyone for the interest in the operation. Everything went according to plan with no pain at all, the worst thing was being able to smell my bone burning as they sawed through it. It's now 3 weeks since the operation and I hope to be driving again after another 3 weeks, all depending on what the consultant says.
Colin can you let me know please which insurance you are with because that sounds like absolutely great especially when everyone's told me to get away from Chaucer insurance.quote:

Glad the op was a success[8D]

I went through Peter Best Insurance services 01621 840400
they are a broker that specialize in classics, the actual company is Ecclesiastical.thats with £50 excess and 1500 miles a year included is breakdown, recovery and home start...uninsured loss and legal expenses which was optional at £15 and with my wife as a named driver £129.63 (this includes European cover)
