Brake lights

my brake lights come on with the handbrake ...I don't think thats normal is it? I'm sure Smurfs didn't ?

when I release the handbrake they go out and are functioning normally with the footbrake...

There is a switch opperated by the handbake cable, you can dosconnect it from the cable, if you don't want it
