While we were away last week Bon got a puncture:( Looking at the flat tyre showed the perished walls up - not good, which was a shame as you could get your head in the tread it was that deep - deeper than the new ones she had fitted today:eek:

She wouldn't fit in the tyre bay and their jacks weren't big enough - they had never seen a side jack like these before:rolleyes:

Lost a hub cap on the way home and a passing car ran over the wheel trim:mad:
She does look splendid though:)
 
I've got a couple of rusty ones somewhere, I'll try the WD40 and green pad method when can find them.
 
Did they put new valves in? When Beryl had new boots, they left the old valves (1992:eek:) in cos they didn't have the larger valves for tube type wheels. I raised hell with their boss, so wasn't too popular down at the depot. They changed them though, and they'll never need to be polite to me again.
 
Yep, I learned from the last time. Make sure you ask for taxi valves when you order the tyres.
 
Commer wheels were originally intended to take inner tubes and the hole in the rim is bigger than that in the standard tubeless wheel. When tubless tyres became widely available large valves where made to fit the wheels designed to take tubes. Ted the Traveller is the same so not confined to Commers.
 
Didn't know about valves. I had all new tyres as mine bit perished. I did mention about the weird jack but they ignored my and it took them about 1 1/2 hours to fit them. Maybe thats why i lost a hubcap on the way home
 
Three of the wheels had tubes in them, another on did have a tube but a lorry valve had been fitted leaving the tube inside the tyre flopping about:eek:
 
There are a set of hubcaps on ebay near me. Are there lots of different sizes? His are from 1976 pb and state nearly 240mm. Mine are 1972 R15 and closer to 250mm?

Just measured one off Bonnie ('69 with 15's} and it's 250mm inside, the same as Harvey which is a '71. So I guess the later ones are smaller.
 
I remember a few years ago I found a brand new boxed set at an autojumble - but they were about 1/8" too small, must have been similar to these.
