Well, tax free...hmm... as I'm importing this to my native Norway next spring, there will be 25% VAT to pay on the purchase price before they'll allow the norwegian plates to go on it. So I'm going to bleed somehow anyway [!]

Well, tax free...hmm... as I'm importing this to my native Norway next spring, there will be 25% VAT to pay on the purchase price before they'll allow the norwegian plates to go on it. So I'm going to bleed somehow anyway [

I totally agree. They are hard to find, these, and especially in this condition. It's not perfect, but a very sound example! Even though it cost me more than I had planned, it is so much better spending the maintenance cost on a good vehicle compared to the endless money and time drain of a ground up restoration of a bad one. Which, by the way, was the plan with the other one. But being a very sad girl even when I picked it up some years ago, it was a mountain to climb (and still is).
Yes, that is now sitting indoors in barn here in Norway - beside an even sadder Chevy from the 30s.. (good company, at least). Time will show what will come of this, but it is a huge project by any standards - not at least due to the leaky roof which has taken its toll on the interior.
But - it is very complete, and would be a shame to throw away. So I'm in the thinking box now trying to work out whether to keep it or to pass it on to another Commerade soul with plenty of devotion and determination. The plan was never to get a second Bluebird, but when this now suddenly is the case, maybe the poor one could find another home and eventually spread its wings one again. We'll see

Amazing to think considering what a rare van that is that you have 2 the same[:0] externals look fairly good by commer standards, hopefully Woolfy can sort you out with any panels needed if you decide to go ahead with resto. What sort of stuff needs doing?

Lots of info on your link, by the looks of it. Have just taken a brief look, but will dig into it deeper soon
The "other" Bluebird needs a lot doing to it, not only Woolfy's blessed panels. The majority of the Highwayman bodies (apart from the cab) are aluminium sheets, which of course don't rot in the same way as a normal van. But the wooden structure of the camper section rots, as does the floor. [V] And the interior, when exposed to leaks over time.. So a job wcich will take a lot of time, effort and patience, in other words. Then there is the engine, clutch and brakes which need attention. To be honest, I've got it stored "out of sight, out og mind" at the moment. But it is very good having info at hand which can prove useful when the project one day may be started
But now there is of course a new addition to my little Commer family, which will need some repairs next spring to get it in nice shape. So, for now, the poorly one will stay where it is - indoors awaiting a resurrection one day.

must be a bit of a conundrum at the moment as to what to do with older one - have a daily driver & one for sunday best[?] at least it's safe & dry now.

Klix' owners found van identical to theirs nearby (do you think these things are destined to travel round in pairs?)- even had same letters on registration

Am hoping to borrow some pics they took as outer aly been stripped off in the wind exposing framework underneath so helpful way of seeing what is supposed to go where. Cab had completely dissolved and collapsed over seats. They managed to rescue a few bits for theirs that had been sheltered from the wreckage but not a lot left now that would be a resto project

If you get hold of pictures of the camper section with the alu sheets stripped off, that would be brilliant. Maybe you could scan them and post them on here, or send me on email.. The wooden skeleton would be very interesting to see, as I don't know where the slats etc. are placed within the structure (as my panels are still on).
