Blue camper in OZ with 5-speed + superlites

Found another one here in Australia - anyone on this forum? I'm interested in that Toyota 5-speed conversion. I assume it's the conversion you can buy for the Alpines?

This is the one I saw in Australia!

I'll locate the pictures of the car show and upload as soon as

THOMO?

He lost a windscreen to those outback roads when the massive trucks kick up the stones; it cost him a lot of money to get a new screen imported hence the "cage". There is another bit that comes down from above for a complete net when he is on bad roads!

Im moving to Oz, seems there's some real trick Pb's out there..
Of course ill need something or some 'things' to keep me occupied and away from the missus eh ;)
Hopefully less rotten than the UK Commers..

Yes, without a doubt....straight forward thinking and common sense?...into the frying pan from the fire and looking forward to that blazing hot furnace!!! [}:)]

Too hot for me - even though half my living relatives are out there:)

Those mesh screens in front of the windscreen used to be a common sight on Australian roads, I guess windscreens have come down in price...

Is anyone else intrigued by the Toyota 5-speed conversion or is it just me? I wonder if this is an easy swap?

Sorry chromo - a slight hi-jack there. Yes the conversion sounds intriguing and ultimately sensible - modern engine and freely available. We have a couple of Vauxhall engine converted campers on here and they are brilliant - so anything is possible.

I have one sat in the field, waiting to be transplanted- when I get time :I

I think screen grills used to be much more common in OZ & Africa. I think todays toughened screens (rather than laminated) have phased them out. One stone and that was it for lam screens, but todays screens seem to take massive stones with just a little chip as a result

Cheers
