bloody van

Hi
Driving the van on tuesday ( hot day ) after 20 mile at a roundabout the van stopped but managed to start same at next roundabout but wouldn't restart removed the fuel pipe from the carb (su) no sign of petrol i used an electric pump to draw petrol through and got going again but process repeted, the fuel line runs over the engine so is it an evaperation problem or pump
thanks steve

Try wrapping some insulation tape around pipe where it touches the engine.. Go over it a few times..
I had the same problem with mine, £1 later all fixed.
Hope this works for you too ;)

Yep sounds like fuel vaporisation and can be a problem in the Commer engine bay:(
A good mod is to extend the fuel line that goes from the pump to the carb to run in front of the radiator so it sits in cooler air, but worth trying the wrap first.
Hopefully it's not the dreaded snakeskin where the lining of the petrol tank breaks down into little slivers and clogs everything up:(

Put inline fuel filter before the pump and re routed the line and it has run for a few miles with no problem so far time will tell, im going to route the line at the back of the engine bay in copper to shorten the lenghth of the pipe
No sign of anythimg in the filter so far so hopefully no snakeskin.
thanks again

I put pipe lagging "non asbestos" around mine that i took from an old hot water system and even with the extreme temps here it has made a massive difference. An electric fuel pump also helps by makes starting easier with reduced cranking time that is usually needed to pump up the fuel. :)

Still packed up on me
drove it 5 mile parked up came back to it 15 mins later and it started instantly as it normally does then a few mins later just dies and wont start leave it for 10 mins and it started, i drove it home and stopped the engine and it would not start again.. any ideas ?

If you are sure the fuel is getting through then a common point of failure on many classics is the condenser in the dizzy. New ones are of very variable quality but those supplied by the Distributor Doctor get good reviews. If you have a spare to hand then put it in and prove or disprove that's the problem before moving on to something else.
Also check the connections on the coil, a loose wire will cause problems.

I have noticed the coil getting unreasonably hot so could be that and condensors are typical culprits so i will replace one at a time and see.
thanks for advice .

Defenitly got a fuel pump issue im thinking of putting electric pump in but which type?
I am looking at a huco suction pump 2.1 psi any thoughts please

The low pressure Facet ones are OK but need to be positioned close to the tank. But that way you could run a new fuel line to come out on the carb side of the engine.
