Bit of a scare!!

Just doing a reccy of the potential run and suddenly Bang!!! and the screen lands in our laps. Got away quite lightly with cut legs and Sue had to have medical attention as her leg was cut quite badly. Was only doing 30mph fortunately otherwise could have been worse. I have a spare screen but I am trying to source a laminated one as I don't fancy this happening at 60mph or miles from home in future.20180525_113433.jpg

I seem to remember a lorry passing in the opposite direction as the screen went. Wether or not something flicked up or was flailing and hit the screen I don't know as it all happened in an instant.
I haven't come across this material on screens before, I suppose it might work as far as stopping the glass coming in, but you wouldn't be able to push it out to enable you to see where you're going to stop.

Fortunately we were only 2 miles from Sues sisters and the b-in-law drove her home after seeing the local nurse. I only had to drive 15 miles to get Jigley home, a real bonus it wasn't raining.:p

Phew! Glad there were no serious injuries.

A spare screen came with our van. I hope we never have to use it. I've had plenty of laminated screens break, but strangely never an old fashioned toughened one.

I would imagine most of the screens in most of the vans are original toughened glass even if they had been replaced in the last 40+years.
I'm waiting for National windscreens to get back to me, according to the person I spoke to when I put it through the insurance they should be able to get laminated screens for our vans, probably from Pilkingtons, who when I spoke to a local supplier said it might be10 - 12 weeks. So I will probably have to fit a toughened screen that I have spare so that I can use Jigley in the mean time.

Pilkingtons developed safety glass in the 20’s, tempered and then laminated was in 30s-40s. So I reacon all Commers have safety glass??
