Hi Andrew.
First thing is what size is your compressor? As I said you will need to match the gun to the compressors output you have. Cubic Feet Minute is the amount if air it will put out, Free Air Delivery which is the amount of air it will put out on an empty tank and its tank size.
So as an example your sealey gun will require between 6-11cfm depending on the size of the fluid tip and setup. Your set up is determined by the type of paint your using. Any paint that is suitable for spraying will have a technical data sheet that will give you the set up needed , 1.3 1.4 1.6 1.8 etc, it should also give you the mixing ratio or reduction ratio, 2:1 +10% etc.
So once yo know your paint requirments you can pick your gun then check your compressor. A little bit of leeway with it is fine as you can "work a round" things. BUT if you are too far out you will have problems If you tank is too small you will have a pressure drop which means you will run out of air and have to stop and wait for the tank to fill this will have a knock on effect with your recoat time and or leave dry edges etc. Please make sure you do your reasearch regards the paint and whats in it, if its a high VOC or contains isocyanate you MUST have an air fed mask.
One last thing have you thought about just spraying the primer coats your self and sending it to a bodyshop for the top coat? I understand that the point is that you've done it etc but it would make it eaiser for you and unless you plan to paint a lot of cars/vans then its a big outlay for one job..
And remember rule 3 preperation is everything.
