you know one the one.....you have a hole in the bodywork which you dig out and it is a bit worse than you thought.....
had some holes in me back corner on the flutey bits, started digging, one thing lead to another to work up to this....(known in welsh as a Twll Mawr)...

Disheartening stuff - Bessie off road for a while it would seem [V] well I wanted to practice my welding skills [:0]

Hope to be able to make most of the hidden stuff up ourselves but will need some help with the fluted bits on back corners, wheel arch and above number plate.

Have managed to find out why the vans go there (or at least why mine did) - if there is any water getting in through seam at the top corner it can drip down behind the cupboard lining into a section of chipboard under the vinyl on the cupboard floor. The chipboard (now soggy) is fixed to the floor with 2 screws which go through into nasty double skinned cap over chassis crossmember- screws then rot out and let water into crossmember from above and hey presto - yer chassis magically disappears [V]

Will be removing said chipboard from cupboard floors and double checking gutters for little holes, don't fancy an afternoon like that again[xx(]

Cheers:) Bessie well worth spending some time with - she's certainly earned it this year. Only demoralizing when it's one of those famous '10 minute jobs' that you plan to do in an afternoon - oops there goes that idea :D

Dont be disheartened, ;)the hard bit is cutting the rot out and cleaning up ready for welding, As soon as you start to put the chassis back in the job does not look as chalinging, (I had the same problem on both sides of Gloria)

both of ours had a lot of work for MOTs in this area.

Wonder when woolfy will start trying these corners?
 
that is the HUGE benefit of the forum - because folks have taken time to report their progress, I have an idea of what to expect and a good idea of how to repair it so cheers to you all for that and some lovely comments, very much appreciated:) With that and Glyns' very capable help Bessie gonna get there

One of the many finishing factors of my first van was that corner, good old double skinning[xx(]

Progress is underway, have made a floor panel for the cupboard bottom and hoping the weather will hold for a few days to get a weldin' and a metal bendin':)
