Hey guys, Happy New Year to you all. Just a quick one, I need a new battery for my 1973 commer. My mate said something along the lines of 'the battery you need depends on what it needs to crank' he has on old vee dub and says it cranks about 500 and is a cold cranking one. Have not got a clue what he means but do know that batteries vary in price depending on what one you buy. Can anyone tell me what to buy for as cheap as reasonably practable. Cheers Guys, Alex

get on Ebay Alex buy the best you can,you can get good used ones for very little ££££ people buy them they don't fit so the stick em on ebay

we bought a new one for our commer but too late to go and see the specs on it now but will look tomorrow and also tell you what to pay for it from a good motorfactors not your local rip off store with orange and black signs with fords in the name .

i'm now working for a motorfactors and we supply most of the tyre depots in our area for their batterys and exhausts so your still paying over the odds for it im afraid Panky. ill stick on here tomorrow the price we do ours for at normal retail.

Ok this is going to be long winded but bear with me, the part number is an industry standard part number and can be quoted anywhere, i have also included terminal postions, read as if the battery is at your feet and you are looking down on top of the battery and the terminals are nearest to you.
069= positive terminal left, negative terminal right, 550 cold cranking amps, 65 amp hour, retail £73 trade £60 plus vat.
075= positive terminal right, negative terminal left, 470 cold cranking amps, 54 amp hour, retail £51 trade £42 plus vat.
065= positive terminal right, negative terminal left, 420 cold cranking amps, 50 amp hour, retail £48 trade £40 plus vat.
027= positive terminal right, negative terminal left, 445 cold cranking amps, 55 amp hour, retail £60 trade £49 plus vat.
these batterys are made in the Delphi (lockheed) factory as a cheaper option to their own brand stuff and come with a two year warranty and we dont get many probs with them. there are cheaper batterys again with a lot lower amp ratings which i was going to price up too but didnt get chance, we also offer several grades of trades rates, the one ive quoted is if you walked in off the street and we had sold you a couple of bits before in the past and you asked for trade. the main thing to remember with batterys is your alternator output for recharging and also useage ie is the engine battery also your source for your living electrics in the back.
