battery charger for boat

I have been told by a canal boat yard in Skipton to take a photo and advertise in their window but I thought I better give you first choice. This is an Elettronautica 220V. 50HZ. 12V. DC 40A. if that means anything at all to you, it means absolutely nothing to me. The size is Length 14 inch- width 8 inch and depth 6 inch.I actually got it for charging the batteries in Lulu but have been told by other members to forget it as it could blow my batteries up. So if there is any rich member who has a boat as well as a commer and £65.00 to spare then come and pick it up. Here's a photo of it.

Its 220v input with a 12v DC output , the three DC outputs with 1 common seems strange - almost like a 3 phase output

i dont think this is a charger but im usually wrong

I Googled Carica Batterie and the translated Wikie page explained about battery chargers.

How refreshing

Yes that's what I was told as apparently boats have a bank of batteries and this machine is used for keeping them charged, I was told it was capable of charging one car battery in about 30 minutes but it should have a minimum of two batteries connected. I'm not going to risk it. There is the canal boats at Skipton (Liverpool/Leeds canal) and the owner has told me I can advertise for free in his office window. He said I should have no problem selling it at that price as they are an expensive piece of gear.quote:

Well with a 40a output be great to run a 12v fridge on 240v while you charged your leisure battery at the same time. Wouldnt be giving the battery so much hammer then;)

My idea was to use it at home to charge both batteries when parked up as it would be no good for carrying around in the van. It is so heavy that both speed and fuel consumption would be affected. It is a beast.
