Bar across bulkhead .. can it be removed ?

Hi,

Kind of mechanical ish ..

Our van is an ex minibus (rounded rear corner windows) and has a substantial bar bolted to the door pillars, across the bulkhead, just behind the rear seats at about driver's shoulder height.

Do all commers have this ? Is it for anything specific (other than just strengthening) ?

I'm wondering if it's safe to remove it, my thinking being that if was removed, we may be able to use part of the cab space for bed space.

The post buses had a separator cage behind the drivers seat.The one on my mini bus has been removed. Would thing if would be ok as have not seen one with the bar still in.

Mine had one low down for centre seat belt mount.. I took it out
